Biology and Behavior

The adult of this species has a reddish body and wings with black, white and green veins. The male's head is gray, while the female has a white face with a dark gray crown, nape, and sides of the neck. During the breeding season they migrate to areas provided with water. They nest in unoccupied burrows, mainly in those of orycteropus or aardvarks, which sometimes reach 9 meters in length.
