Biology and Behavior

It is a gregarious bird that lives in groups of 6 and 12 individuals. This colorful magpie with a coral red beak, black head, blue back, snowy belly and exceptionally long tail, sometimes ventures into rural areas in search of food, where their loud voice gives them away, as they are very vocal. In addition to an extensive repertoire of squawks, they are capable of clearly imitating the voice of other animals such as the giant squirrel or several species of birds of prey.

In spring, the pair builds a nest on a tender branch, in order to detect movements that reveal the presence of a potential enemy.
