Biology and Behavior

Its name refers to the white or blue bands that the males have on their emerald green color. Herbivores and diurnal, they spend the day sunning themselves and feeding on leaves, fruits and flowers, particularly the hibiscus flower. At dusk they retire to the treetops to spend the night.
The Fiji banded iguana is threatened by the destruction of its habitat, poaching for food or to supply the exotic pet market, and by the introduction of rats, cats and mongooses that prey on eggs, hatchlings and adults. .
