Pythonidae
Squamata
Reptilia
2 months.
5 to 20 eggs.
Small mammals, birds and other reptiles.
From 18 to 20 years old
Females are generally longer and heavier than males. Semi-arboreal, they spend the first years of life in the branches of trees to protect themselves from predators. Of nocturnal habits, they spend the day inactive, and take advantage of the sunset to move and hunt. The first years of life present grayish colors in different shades. As they grow and molt, the colors turn to brighter yellows and browns. Like other pythons, it lacks venom. It kills its prey by constriction.
It is also known as Jungle Carpet Python because of the pattern its scales show, similar to the geometric pattern of a carpet.
