The BIOPARC Foundation and the parks of Fuengirola, Valencia and Gijón Aquarium, references in the “fight against indifference”

In an overwhelming situation of messages, images and content so overwhelming that it is already called infoxication and that, in many cases, causes the opposite effect and leads us to apathy, from the BIOPARC Foundation and the BIOPARC of Valencia, Fuengirola and the Aquarium of Gijón wants to make a call to “fight against indifference.”

 And today, International Day of Environmental Education, we must reclaim this anniversary as a vehicle of vital importance for mobilize and call to action towards greatest collective challenge of humanity, saving the planet we live on

It is necessary to take advantage of every opportunity to reflect on the problems affecting the Earth and how we can change course towards a more sustainable future. In a world where the climate change, biodiversity loss, contamination and other environmental threats are already an obvious danger, the environmental disclosure becomes a pillar fundamental to address these issues

The BIOPARC of Fuengirola, Valencia and the Gijón Aquarium, supported by the BIOPARC Foundation, were born with the objective of being a reference in promoting the need to conserve the environment. These parks are not only highly relevant destinations for discovering wild nature, but they have also become authentic dissemination platforms and large Environmental Education classrooms. These unique spaces allow you to immerse yourself in incredible natural habitats and closely observe the species that inhabit them. However, the experience goes beyond observation. The parks have implemented a series of awareness activities designed to inspire people of all ages to take action to conserve the environment. 

The tours in the parks they are a recreational-didactic experience that allows us to understand the importance of biodiversity and the risks it faces. Talks and meetings with specialists provide a deeper insight into environmental challenges, and exhibitions such as “Birds and Mammals” in the Jungle Glade of BIOPARC Fuengirola and “The cycle of life” in BIOPARC Valencia provide a unique immersive experience. The Gijón Aquarium It has also stood out for its innovative “The Last Frontier” virtual reality experience that transports us to the depths of the ocean to appreciate the unknown and invaluable marine ecosystems. 

One of the most notable aspects of Environmental Education in these parks are the recognized “Vacation Schools“, which provide the opportunity to learn about nature while having fun during the holidays. In addition, the training resources developed by the parks' Education Departments turn these places into true “Nature Classrooms” and great allies for teachers, benefiting students of all ages. The BIOPARC Foundation is also committed to generating quality content, such as Wild Ocean Film Fest (WOFF), a festival of documentaries about the sea that is based at the Gijón Aquarium and that promotes conservation through art.  

On this World Environmental Education Day, the BIOPARC Foundation and the parks of Valencia, Fuengirola and the Gijón Aquarium want to promote a true revolution to stir consciences and inspire people to appreciate and protect this planet that is our home and that of millions of species. The challenge is ambitious, but we have no alternative, just joining together In a common front we can build a future in which harmony between humans and nature is an achievable reality.
