In a few weeks the school year will be over, and the well-deserved vacations will arrive. A few months of free time that become the perfect opportunity to enjoy all those pending plans. And so that the whole family and, especially the little ones, can have fun and discover the infinite curiosities of nature, BIOPARC Fuengirola is reinforcing its educational activities this summer.
During the months of July and August, people who decide to visit the animal conservation center located on the Costa del Sol will not only be able to immerse themselves in the most remote tropical jungles, but will also have the opportunity to get closer to the animal species it houses. All this thanks to the departments of Zoology, Herpetology and Education, through 'Meetings with caregivers'.
A dozen different activities to learn, have fun and discover the animal world that will take place in more than 60 sessions
Every day, at 12:30 and 18:30 p.m., different locations in the park will become points where you can discover the work that, day after day, the keepers carry out to obtain the maximum well-being of the animals. In these meetings, visitors will be able to discover the habits of some of the species it houses. BIOPARC Fuengirola and learn first-hand such interesting aspects as its physical characteristics and singularities; THE enrichments and training that they offer to enhance their instincts, their physique and of course, their well-being.
A program designed for all ages that covers everything from how to feed such feared predators as Nile crocodiles, tigers or leopards; to the veterinary training that caregivers develop. The “cultures” that have developed in the world of primates, the different plumages in birds, knowing the peculiarities of eggs such as those of cassowaries or the wonderful world of arthropods are also part of these educational meetings.
Along with these activities, BIOPARC Fuengirola maintains those already scheduled in diary: guided tours of the island of Madagascar, Bird and Mammal Exhibition, and the new 'Wildlife' activity.
In July and August, the Malaga conservation center extends its hours, opening every day from 10 a.m. to 23 p.m.
The Meetings with Caregivers that are part of the summer programming are the following:
Nile crocodile feeding. Meeting point: Cocos Bridge. Description: After the cold season in which they stop eating and with the arrival of high temperatures, crocodiles begin to feed. Visitors will be able to accompany the herpetology team in the feeding process and better discover these fearsome predators.
Galapagos giant tortoise training. Meeting point: turtles viewpoint. Description: Keeping one of the slowest animals in the world in shape is no easy task. Through a game with colors and various rewards, keepers will encourage certain behaviors of these turtles through the 'positive reinforcement' method.
Sri Lankan leopard enrichment. Meeting point: leopard installation glass. Description: Through this activity, caregivers enhance the physical activity of the most effective predators in the jungle: leopards. Visitors will be able to discover the behavior of these felines, their evolution and most notable curiosities.
Training with Komodo dragon. Meeting point: Komodo outdoor installation viewpoint. Description: A perfect activity to learn how caregivers improve the physical and psychological well-being of Ora and Reo, our Komodo dragons, through positive stimuli with which to entertain them and keep them in shape.
Feeding gorillas. Meeting point: glass gorilla installation. Description: Next to the Congo Valley that we recreated, our caregivers and educators will teach visitors what the situation of these lowland gorillas is and how they exercise so that they maintain the same attitudes they would have in the wild. In addition, they will be able to learn what these primates eat and how they feed it.
Ice cream a la carte. Meeting point: Potamoqueros viewpoint. Description: The team of caregivers will tell how some of the animals at Bioparc Fuengirola cool off. Chicken broth, vegetable, and fruit ice creams. A great way to beat the summer heat.
The world of arthropods. Meeting point: Komodo covered area. Description: The group of animals identified as arthropods make up one of the most numerous and diverse in the animal world. With the aim of bringing visitors closer to this exciting world, the Herpetology team will present the importance of these invertebrates, about cockroaches, mantises, stick or leaf insects, tarantulas; and their camouflage techniques, their feeding or reproduction.
Lemurs of Madagascar. Meeting point: Baobab. Description: On the island of Madagascar, the public will have the opportunity to enjoy this species just a few centimeters up close and see how the lemurs are fed every day, together with the Zoology and Education team.
Getting closer to flamingos. Meeting point: Flamencos bridge. Description: These wading birds are one of the most popular in Bioparc Fuengirola. With a colony of more than 50 flamingos, some of them babies, visitors will learn up close what the caretakers' work is to keep their beaches as similar to the humid areas in which they normally live.
Culinary delights. Meeting point: Komodo covered area. Description: This activity is an opportunity to discover what the daily diet of all the species housed in the park consists of. They will know the preparation and preparation of menus with which to keep the animals healthy and vital.
Meet the Sumatran tiger. Meeting point: lower glass tiger installation. Description: Visitors will be able to discover up close what enrichment is like to enhance the physical activity of these felines. In addition, they will discover incredible curiosities about their appearance, habits, etc.
Between feathers and eggs. Meeting point: Komodo covered area. Description: What type of feathers there are, what their functions are or the main characteristics of birds that have plumage will be some of the things that visitors can learn and see up close in this activity. As well as discovering eggs as characteristic as cassowary eggs.
Culture in primates. Meeting point: covered chimpanzee area. Description: Next to the chimpanzee bridge, the Zoology team will teach visitors the different cultures that have emerged among the subspecies of primates: skills, relationships, habits, food, etc.
