BIOPARC appeal to “be part of the plan” as platforms for the mobilization of society and to save species in danger of extinction

Today it is more evident than ever that the greatest threat to Earth's biodiversity is the human species. On the other hand, we are in the moment of greatest development of humanity and we have demonstrated our enormous capacity to do incredible things. In this sense, it is totally necessary to take action to keep what we need most, the wonderful planet on which we live, the only one on which we can live and that we share with millions of animal and plant species.

In this situation, BIOPARC with the Foundation and the parks of Valencia, Fuengirola and the Gijón Aquarium, represent a new model, “life parks”, whose main objective is to conserve the environment. And today, May 22, they join once again the call of the United Nations in the celebration of the International Day of Biological Diversity, assuming this year's motto, “Be part of the plan.” La dissemination and education to provoke a change in attitude towards the protection of the planet is a fundamental part of the conservation strategy. For it, BIOPARC are great awareness platforms among the thousands of people and schoolchildren who visit them every year to discover the beauty of wild nature. Today we will share the commemoration of this important anniversary so that you can also join in and understand the importance of individual actions when they take shape globally.

And the other essential part to alleviate the loss of biodiversity is active conservation of threatened species. In this sense, the commitment of BIOPARC is total. With participation in more than 100 international programs for the preservation of endangered species Important successes have been achieved in controlled breeding, with the births of numerous species, including elephants, Komodo dragons, gorillas, sharks, orangutans and chimpanzees. For its part, the BIOPARC Foundation focuses its activity on campaigns in situ, collaborating with relevant institutions in the “hot” biodiversity zones of the world and promoting actions in Spain such as the Center for the Recovery of Marine Animals of Asturias (CRAMA), where these wild animals are housed for their treatment and subsequent return to the sea.

In 2024 the Foundation presentan important developments under the concept of “leisure with a cause”. The park of Fuengirola open your expected expansion focused on the jungles and coasts of Central and South America (one of the richest areas in biological diversity in the world) following in the footsteps of the legendary first circumnavigation of the Earth, that of Juan Sebastián Elcano. The Gijón Aquarium presents for the first time in Europe, the “Sharks” exhibition organized by the American Museum of Natural History in New York, where you can learn about the incredible diversity of sharks and offers a unique look at defending these guardians of the oceans. In BIOPARC Valencia the opportunity to see two baby elephants Interacting with their herd and other babies such as gorillas or chimpanzees, is a transformative experience to commit to their protection.
