- The Earth gives us life by offering the essential elements so that we can breathe and feed ourselves, as well as the necessary water. As living beings we are part of this wonderful nature that, paradoxically, we are destroying. The BIOPARC Foundation and the parks of Fuengirola, Valencia and the Gijón Aquarium commemorate Earth Day by supporting the UN message to face humanity's greatest challenge, saving our planet
Our current way of life distances us more and more from the natural environment. Housed in increasingly larger cities, we have forgotten that if we have everything we need, air, food or water, it is thanks to the unique characteristics of our planet. We are living beings and, as such, we are nature. The BIOPARC Foundation and the parks of Fuengirola, Valencia and the Gijón Aquarium were born to reconnect us with that essence lost in our memory, to bring the wild beauty closer, to excite us and to motivate us towards its protection. In commemoration of Mother Earth Day, BIOPARC wants to be a speaker for the UN message about the greatest challenge that humanity has ever faced, saving our planet.
The designation of Mother Earth Day on April 22 comes from the first people who glimpsed the environmental deterioration and managed to massively mobilize students to demand a change in this destructive model. From those demonstrations of the 60s and 70s emerged the “Stockholm Conference” and, with it, the certainty that the only option was to coordinate the actions globally. After more than 50 years, it seems that history is repeating itself and once again the younger generations have taken the initiative in the face of a very uncertain future. Today, science provides irrefutable data about what was already “seen coming”, the loss of biodiversity and climate change show that we are literally destroying our wonderful home. And we don't have another one.
The BIOPARC Foundation and the parks of Fuengirola, Valencia and the Gijón Aquarium want to continue the legacy of those visionary conservationists, becoming platforms for raising awareness in society and for the conservation of species in danger of extinction, both in situ , the ex situ. A commitment to animal welfare valued by hundreds of thousands of visitors who have discovered the recreation of wild nature when visiting BIOPARC, from the lush jungles to the abyssal depths. And a commitment to the preservation of the most endangered species, through participation in 100 international programs that have achieved enormous successes with births as notable as Komodo dragons, gorillas, elephants, orangutans and chimpanzees.
