In 2020, the first laying of loggerhead turtle eggs was recorded on the coasts of Malaga. Los Boliches beach, in Fuengirola, was chosen by a female Caretta caretta to build their nest and lay more than sixty eggs. An event never documented in Malaga and that was notified to the authorities by an ordinary citizen.
Year after year, this event has continued to occur in different parts of the Mediterranean coast. In the case of Andalusia, the gateway and exit to the Mediterranean with more than 800 kilometers of coastline, it is positioned as one of the regions with the most biodiversity in Europe at marine level y Essential transit area for many species.

This makes Citizen awareness of the reality of these species and the increasingly frequent possibility of encountering them is essential. on any given day by the beach. In order to contribute to this knowledge and on the occasion of the celebration, each June 16, World Sea Turtle Day, Bioparc Fuengirola launches a special activity on Saturday, June 15 on Los Boliches beach in Fuengirola.
What to do when faced with a turtle trail on the beach?
The park's Education team, together with members of the Herpetology team, will bring attendees closer to the curiosities and dangers that these chelonioids face; and they will make them participate in the actions carried out by Bioparc Fuengirola for the conservation of loggerhead turtles that have nested on the Andalusian coasts in recent years. Furthermore, this meeting will become a perfect opportunity to learn about how to identify the tracks and nests of these turtles, and know how to act against them, notifying 112 so that the relevant authorities can act quickly, putting implementing the established procedures against this type of events.
