Bioparc Fuengirola hosts the 10th AICAS Congress, a meeting point for wild animal caretakers.

Zookeepers from all over Spain and Portugal meet at the Malaga conservation center to share experiences, research, and animal welfare strategies.

Bioparc Fuengirola is preparing to become the epicenter of knowledge and experience in the care of wild animals with the celebration of the 10th AICAS Congress, which will take place in the next 25 and October 26This congress will bring together caregivers from across the peninsula in a unique event that combines training, professional exchange, and the dissemination of best practices in animal welfare.

AICAS (Association of Zoo and Aquarium Animal Keepers) It has established itself as the leading professional forum in Spain for those who dedicate their lives to caring for and preserving wildlife. Each year, the congress provides a space for professionals to share research, experiences, and strategies to ensure the well-being of the species under their care.

BIOPARC Fuengirola, Together with BIOPARC Valencia and the Gijón Aquarium, reinforces its commitment to conservation and environmental education. The three centers stand out for their work in protecting endangered species, as well as for their research projects and breeding programs in collaboration with international conservation initiatives. During these days, the park will not only showcase its facilities, but will also Fuengirola will host dozens of presentations and meetings which will allow you to learn first-hand about the daily work of their caregivers and colleagues from all over Spain. The presentation section will take place in the Auditorium of the House of Culture of the Fuengirola City Council.

The team from the Malaga conservation center will present an outstanding participation with presentations that address the breeding of hornbills in Southeast Asia, by Javier Tomás Vicent Segura, until the experience of Fernando Gómez Mellado with the Malayan tapir, known as “the ghost of the forest”. Projects on the training of giant Galapagos tortoises, Lidia María Corpas Aguilera; working with the sri lankan leopard, presented by Desiree Rosa Pardo; and the coexistence in the great aviary of the New World, theme developed by Estefanía Díaz Leiva. Also Maria Jose Roldan Cardenete will explain how young gorilla Ekan learns through play within his training program, while Luis Miguel Viton Perucha will present his research “Journey from the New to the Old World”, and Laura Ramos Zafra will detail the results obtained in the study on the Arapaima movement.

For its part, the team BIOPARC Valencia will also have a significant presence at the congress, contributing experiences focused on the training, recovery, and environmental enrichment of different species. María Sánchez, responsible for the educational exhibition of birds and mammals, will present a Training plan to restore locomotion of a gray-crowned crane after an injury. Ana Broch, from the primate area, will address the clinical training in red-bellied squid; Andreu, from the herbivore team, will share his experience on indoor enrichments for antelopes, and Almudena, from the carnivore group, will present his work on clinical training in lions.
