BIOPARC Fuengirola brings the educational project “Nature in the Classroom” to the capital of Malaga

The initiative proposes installing small freshwater aquariums in classrooms that house a real ecosystem composed of neocaridina shrimp, plants and algae.

BIOPARC Fuengirola today presented the launch of “Nature in the Classroom – Málaga,” an innovative project that will reach five schools in the city this academic year. The announcement was made during a press conference held at the CEIP Nuestra Señora de Gracia school, with the attendance of María Paz Flores Delgado, Councilor for Education of the Málaga City Council.

The initiative proposes installing small freshwater aquariums in classrooms that house a real ecosystem composed of neocaridina shrimp, plants and algae, turning each class into a living space for observation, science and active learning through nature.

A project that connects education, nature and sustainability

The program is aimed at students of 2nd and 3rd cycle of Primary EducationPromoting environmental awareness, respect for living beings, and active learning. Schoolchildren become caretakers and observers of a real ecosystem, developing knowledge related to science and biology, sustainability and responsible habits, cooperative work, and values ​​related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In Malaga, this first edition will be implemented in five educational centersParticipants will be selected from among those who have expressed interest. To implement the program, the BIOPARC Fuengirola educational team will offer:

  1. Initial training for selected teachers and students.
  2. Installation of aquariums in classrooms.
  3. Kick-off session with school groups.
  4. Continuous support with bi-weekly online follow-up.
  5. Periodic visits to the center to assess the evolution of the ecosystem and reinforce learning.

 

Commitment to animal welfare and quality education

The participating schools commit to ensuring the well-being of the shrimp by maintaining appropriate water conditions, feeding, and a peaceful environment. Each school will also have a designated space for the aquarium and will participate in all phases of the project.

For his part, Francisco de Asís García, director of BIOPARC Fuengirola, explained that “The expansion of Nature in the Classroom to Malaga represents a decisive step in our educational mission. We want children to understand, through real-life experience, the importance of caring for biodiversity and valuing life in all its forms.”

With this project, Malaga takes a step forward in educational innovation, incorporating nature into everyday learning and sowing the seed of sustainability in new generations.
